Watercolor Wednesday Supply List
If you are a new student and have some watercolor supplies please bring them to class. I do not expect you to buy supplies prior to visiting our first class.
The majority of the supplies on this list can be purchased on Amazon or Jerry’s Artarama Austin. A few things can be found at Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and Walmart.
Brushes
- Gotideal 15 piece Paint Brush set (Amazon) or whatever brushes you have like 1″ flat, a 12″ round, 2″ round, and 0 script liner
- Creative Mark Polar Flo 700B Watercolor Brush set of 3 (Amazon)
- My favorite brushes are by Royal & Langnickel. They can be purchased on Amazon and are called Majestic. They have beveled end handles.
- All of the brushes used in my class are synthetic.
Paper:
Good quality paper is essential for creating a watercolor painting. Please use only these brands:
- Arches Rough 140 lb. pads, blocks or sheets, 12X16 or 9X12 (Amazon & Jerry’s)
- Paul Rubens Block (Amazon)
- Windsor Newton Rough 140 lb. pads, blocks or sheets 12X16 or 9X12 (Amazon & Jerry’s)
- Rembrandt Rough pads or blocks (Amazon)
- Hahnemuhle Harmony rough block (Amazon)
Other supplies:
- 2 shallow divided clear plastic water dishes no more than 2 inches deep or 2 shallow water containers
- A roll of paper towels
- Facial Tissue
- A grey watercolor pencil or a number 2 pencil
- A kneaded rubber eraser or soft white eraser
- A Spray bottle
- Graphite paper that is wax free, black and 20 sheets per pack
- Jar or brush holder like MyArtscape organizer for 15 short handle brush storage
- A Hair Dryer
- A Ruler
- A Stylus
- An old credit card
- A Color Wheel (Amazon, Jerry’s, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, Walmart)
Palettes:
Any of these will work. All of the palettes have lids.

Watercolor Paint
The colors used in this class are transparent watercolors and most are made by Daniel Smith. You can also choose to use Holbien, VanGogh or Windsor Newton. Windsor Newton can be purchased at Michael’s & Hobby Lobby. All of these companies can be found at Amazon and Jerry’s. VanGogh is an inexpensive way to start, however, it is a student grade paint and does not have the pigment saturation of the other brands. Please buy tubes of paint.
