Watercolor Wednesday Class Supply List

Watercolor Wednesday Class Supply List 2025

Before you join my class I ask everyone to come and visit us. Observe how I teach, talk with and engage the class. The class is designed to be a place of joy, creativity, friendship and learning. It requires a commitment of time and money for supplies, I don’t want anyone joining without first seeing if they are comfortable in my class environment. I encourage all of my new students to rent a kit that has everything needed to paint in my class before spending money on supplies. If you are a new student and have some watercolor supplies, please bring them to class. We will check to see if they are translucent. I do not expect you to buy supplies prior to visiting my class. The majority of the supplies on this list can be purchased on Amazon, Michaels, Hobby Lobby or Wal-Mart. However, the easiest way to find them all is on Amazon.com

BRUSHES: All of the brushes used in class are synthetic. To start you will need, a 1 inch flat, a 10-inch round, an 8-inch, 4 inch & 2-inch round set of brushes and a 0 Script liner. Creative Mark Polar Flo 700B watercolor set of 3 flat brushes is a good buy and is on Amazon. We use chiseled end brushes or rattail handled brushes. The Polar Flo set has these ends. Artify has a 15-piece brush set with a carrying case and is a good starter set. They are on Amazon. Royal & Langnickle makes my favorite brushes. They are called Majestic or Aqualon and come in sets. They are also on Amazon. A painting stylus can be used if you already have brushes or if you find brushes that you like but don’t have the handles required for class. A stylus can do what a chisel ended brush does. Lastly, you will need a detail brush set. There are many options on Amazon that you can choose from. Remember only synthetic brushes.

PAPER: Good quality paper is essential for creating watercolor paintings. Please only use these brands: Arches rough 140 lb pads, blocks or sheets. Sizes 9X12, 8X10 or 12X16 are used in class. Windsor Newton rough pad or blocks, and BaoHong Watercolor Blocks rough 9X12, 20 sheets. All are on Amazon but can be found, at times, at Jerry’s Artarama. NEVER BUY HOT PRESS PAPER!

CONTAINERS: 2 shallow divided clear water dishes no more than 2 inches deep or 2 shallow water dishes no more than 2 inches deep.

OTHER SUPPLIES: Paper towels, facial tissue, grey watercolor pencil or number 2 pencil. Artscape graphite transfer sheets wax free, erasable and smudge free. 20 sheets to a pack (Amazon), a rubber eraser or soft white eraser (Dollar Tree or Amazon), a spray bottle (Dollar Tree or Walmart), a brush holder like My Artscape organizer for 15 short handled brush storage (Amazon) and a hair dryer. I don’t use them often because they fade paint, but sometimes they are necessary. A 12-Inch ruler, a stylus, an old credit card, and a color wheel (Amazon, Jerry’s, Hobby Lobby, Michaels or Wal-Mart),

PALETTES: All of the palettes have lids. Colorwheel palette by Speedball Art Products (Amazon). Soho Urban Artist Palette (Amazon), Falling in Art Airtight Leakproof Watercolor Palette (Amazon), Lowell Cornell 17 well folding palette (Wal-Mart), and Sealable paint palette (Hobby Lobby).

All of these paints can be found on Amazon. A more limited supply can be found at Jerry’s, Hobby Lobby or Michaels.
